Eliminating Mold and Reducing Humidity and Allergens in West Springfield, MA
Challenge
This home owner in West Springfield, MA called us out because of the mold in his basement. When our building science expert went into the basement he figured out what was causing the problem; It was the crawlspace! These areas create an environment where mold loves to grow due to the amount of humidity that comes up from the dirt in the crawlspace. To fix theses problems it takes only one solution, encapsulate the crawlspace!
Solution
First thing we do is lay down our drainage mat. The drainage mat lets the water collect and properly evaporate. Next, we put down our terra-block insulation on top of the drainage mat for some much needed R-value. After that, we put silverglo EPS foam board on the walls to stop the cold or hot temperatures outside effecting this space from coming in. Then we lay out our clean space 20 mil thick vapor barrier as the last defense against the elements that are trying to enter this space effecting the home above. This home now has no mold problems, less humidity and allergens!
