Making a Home More Comfortable Year Round in Plainfield, MA
Challenge
This homeowner in Plainfield MA called us out to her home to take a look at some issues she was concerned with. When we got to the home, it was clear that there were animals living in her crawlspace. Animals can easily create nests in fiberglass insulation. We noticed right away the high amount of mice feces covering all of the old insulation. This old insulation is a breeding ground for mold, and we noticed a large amount of it. Crawlspaces are very dry and cold in the winter and very hot and humid in the summer. These are the reasons this customer was not comfortable in their home no matter the season.
Solution
To fix this, we had to do the unpleasant task of removing all of the old nasty, sagging insulation that was covered in mold. First, we bag up old insulation, debris, and properly dispose of the materials. Now its time for mold remediation. We spray effected areas with our Mold-X2 Cleaner, then all of the mold disappeared instantly. After that, we spray our Mold-X Botanical on previously effected areas to prevent the future growth of any mold. Now we are ready for other Dr. Energy Saver solution. The first thing we do to start our crawlspace encapsulation is to insulate the walls with our 2' SilverGlo EPS foam board. Next, we put down our drainage matting down to create a space and thermal block. Then, we install our TerraBlock foam insulation over the drainage matting across the entire floor for some much needed R-value. Following this, a heavy duty 20 mil CleanSpace vapor barrier is also installed across the entire floor as well as walls, sealed, and spiked to the floor. This will block any moisture or allergens from getting into this new encapsulated space we are creating. Lastly, we tie in the entire system by spraying our closed cell 2 part spray foam from the bottom of the walls, over thew sill plate and to the top of the rim joist. Now this Customer can be comfortable in their home all year round, no matter the season.
