Challenge

This homeowner contacted us about issues with ice damning. Ice damning occurs when the heat we pay for rises up into our attics and heats up the roof deck above 32 degrees. Once this happens, the melted snow runs down the roof until it reaches the eaves. There it refreezes and creates an ice damn, which gets under the shingles and allows water into our homes. This can cause massive amounts of damage to a home.

Solution

To prevent damming it is important to have proper insulation in our attics. In this case we used our Super Attic Treatment. The first thing our team did was air seal and install the proper blocking. Then we take our silverglo and run it up the roof rafters. Silverglo is an EPS foam board infused with graphite. Graphite bumps up the R-value of the foam board by 24%. Every piece of silverglo is put together with a bead of foam in between each sheet. This allows for an air tight barrier so the roof will stay cool and ice damming will not occur.

Now the homeowner is more comfortable and will never have to worry about have destructive ice daming ever again!
