Having Trouble Getting Your Kids to Save Energy?

In order to maximize the results of saving energy, everyone in the home should be on board, including the kids. However, it can be a struggle to convince children to actively participate in saving energy. Here are some tips on how to train your kids to be more green.

Use reverse psychology! Let them believe that they are in charge by suggesting that they remind you to do simple energy saving tasks, such as switching off lights. That way, the tasks becomes an opportunity for them to tell the parent what to do (which reminds them to do it as well) rather than adding on another thing they are being nagged about.

Find out what works for motivation and use it! Whether it be taking money out of a piggy bank to show that wasting energy costs money or explaining how saving energy helps share it with others, discover what form of motivation works best for the child and use it.

Use visuals to remind them! Something as simple as a sticker by the light switch can help remind kids to turn off the lights without any nagging.
