This homeowner in Ellington, CT called us out to their home for an estimate on replacement insulation and their concern with cold rooms in the house. We conducted our Free Home Energy Evaluation and noticed they had older fiberglass insulation in the attic that was not doing the job they intended. Fiberglass is not efficient insulation because air is still able to travel through the material. Also, no insulation should be installed without proper air sealing, as this home was. There were gaps and cracks in the attic where the air was able to escape out and into the home wasting air they were paying to heat and cool.
To help this homeowner, we knew we needed to remove all of the old fiberglass insulation. First, we remove, vacuum, bag up, then dispose of the materials. Next, we get to our air sealing. We air seal all top plates where air is able to leak into the attic and be lost without it! Now, we build our insulated catwalk for storage and accessibility to HVAC system. Now we can blow in our cellulose insulation. This fills all odd-shaped gaps and voids in the attic! Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions this home has efficient insulation, and will be an even temperature throughout the home!
