This homeowner in Norwich, CT called us out to their home to help determine what to do to reduce overall drafts in their home. This was an older home, with no insulation in it at all and this was a family home, so it was important for it to be as comfortable as possible! We went to their home to conduct our Home Energy Evaluation and our Building Science Specialist spoke to the homeowner about doing a Crawlspace Encapsulation to help reduce the overall drafts and moisture in the home! The homeowner decided this was a good idea to increase energy efficiency and to eliminate the mass amounts of drafts throughout the home.
First we have to remove all of the materials in the crawlspace to make a clean, open work space. Next, we make sure to flatten the ground if needed to prepare for the treatment. Now, we can Insulate!
We insulated the walls with out SilverGlo EPS foam board and put down dimpled matting to create an airspace. We then sealed the rim joist and any air leaks and placed TerraBlock floor insulation over our matting. Now, we installed our encapsulation liner which is an antimicrobial vapor barrier to keep out moisture. Lasty, We install our spray foam insulation around the perimeter of the basement on the rim joist to seal all gaps and cracks!
Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver By Eco Energy Solutions, this home will have less drafts, and be overall more comfortable and energy efficient!
