Photo Album: Upgrading Attic Insulation in Shrewsbury, MA
This homeowner in Shrewsbury, MA called in with issues keeping their home comfortable. It was hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Upon conducting a free energy evaluation, we discovered that the attic was not properly air sealed or insulated. They had some old, ineffective fiberglass batts to insulate the attic floor, and just about no air sealing.
We removed that old insulation to start, and addressed any air leaks. We installed baffles to keep necessary ventilation in the attic. Lastly we blew in our TruSoft cellulose.
Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, this home is now more comfortable and energy efficient!
Before
That really is not very much insulation at all!
No Air Sealing
This whole house fan has a cover, but you can see that there was no air sealing done under those batts.
Soffits
Soffits allow the attic to stay ventilated, but we normally cannot see straight out of them!
After
It may be hard to spot, but there is a rule installed towards the back on the left, we have many of these rulers installed to ensure we blow evenly. We also have flags marking off electrical fixtures for maintainance.
