Making a Home More Energy Efficient in Granby, CT
Challenge
This homeowner in Granby, CT called us out because he was spending way to much money on his heating and cooling bills. He has a beautiful home with a walk up attic. Just like any attic, these ones leak too. Unlike an attic with no floor we can't get to the top plates, end plates, and penetrations to air seal them. To work around this problem we have to make the attic a conditioned space making the thermal boundary the roof line instead of the attic floor. But how do we do that?
Solution
To help these home owners we are going to install our Super Attic treatment. First thing we have to is block the floor with silverglo foam insulation blocks in between every bay and the gable ends. This stops cold air from the soffits getting into the conditioned space. Then we start to put up the runs of silverglo eps foam board. Making sure we air seal in between every sheet making sure no air can get past this new thermal boundary. Once we get all of our pieces up we double check the entire super attic making sure everything is air sealed one last time. Now this home will retain its heat longer, helping this home owner spend less money on his bills year round!
