Insulating Attic in Enfield, CT
Challenge
Problem:
In New, England homes get hot in the summer. The heat from the Sun makes your shingles heat up to 160 degrees Fahrenheit. That radiates into your attic and makes your attic 140 degrees. Now your attic is blazing hot. Heat conducts through your attic making your home heat up through radiant conduction. The A/C that you are using to cool down your home can't keep up and is going to get taken out by all the hot air. This makes you spend more money on energy bills. This is a common problem for poorly insulated homes and that was the problem with a homeowner in Enfield, CT.
This home had old dirty Attic insulation that was collecting dirt, dust, pollen, bugs, rodents, and feces.
Solution
Solution:
We had our evaluator go out and check out the home and concluded that the best way to save money over time would be to take out all the old insulation and replace it with new insulation. We talked it over with the homeowner and they agreed. We replaced the old insulation with TruSoft cellulose. The team installed a thick layer of cellulose. This thick layer of TruSoft Cellulose is important because it has a higher R-value than blown fiberglass. The TruSoft cellulose is much less permeable by hot or cold attic air. This results in a more comfortable home and lowers fuel and energy bills.
The homeowner was happy and could already tell the difference. Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Fogarty's Home Services.
