Attic Insulation Photo Album: Making a home More Comfortable in East Longmeadow, MA
These home owners in East Longmeadow, MA called us out to see what we could do about making there home warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. Most of the time when we hear this there is insufficient insulation in the attic. When we went up there we could see that he had old fiberglass batt insulation. This was doing next to nothing to protect his home. First thing we must do to help these home owners is to remove this old nasty insulation. Then we started to install one of our treatments called a super attic. This brings the thermal boundary from the floor of the attic to the roof line. First step in doing this is to block the floor bays so no cold or hot air can get into the floor and effect this space. Then we install our SilverGlo EPS foam board to the roof deck making sure to air seal in between every piece of SilverGlo to ensure an air tight boundary. This home will now be nice and warm in the winter and cool in the summer!
Before
All the ceiling bays were exposed.
Blocking the Floor Bays
To properly air seal, we use SilverGlo to block the perimeter top plates and 1 Part Zip Foam to seal all the air gaps.
Installing SilverGlo panels on the roof deck.
This moved the thermal boundary from the ceiling to the roof, creating a conditioned space in the attic.
