Eliminating Mold and Upgrading Basement Efficiency in Pittsfield, MA

This homeowner in Pittsfield, MA was interested in finishing their basement. They called us to their home for an estimate on a Total Basement Finishing treatment. When our Building Science Specialist got to the home, they soon realized there were a few concerns that should be taken care of previous to finishing the basement space. They noticed basement mold and no insulation! Mold can be very dangerous, and having inefficient or no insulation in your basement can cause high heating and cooling bills and cold floors. Another thing they wanted to address was eliminating the water in the basement. We knew exactly what to do to help this homeowner.
Solution
To help this homeowner, first we had to take care of the mold. Mold can be very dangerous. This can effect children, older individuals, people with asthma, and other health issues more than others! It was important to treat this mold for these homeowners. We sprayed our Mold-X2 Cleaner on effected areas. This eliminated mold on spot. Now, our Mold-X 2 Botanical, a plant based disinfectant is applied by fogging the space to prevent mold from growing back. Next, we install our fire retardant Foamax Insulation Boards along the concrete walls of the basement and fastened with out Foam-tits fasteners. This will help with warmer floors and making the home easier to heat and cool! Now we install our two part spray foam insulation along the rim joist. This material expands, filling all gaps and cracks where air from the outside can enter your home! We also installed a new, efficient basement hatchway door which will make this space completely energy efficient for these homeowners, thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions! The last step is to eliminate their water issue, installing our SuperSump sump pump system!
