Insulating Basement in Williamstown, CT
Challenge
Problem:
A homeowner in Williamstown, MA needed their basement to be insulated and to protect/stop moisture from coming through the walls of their basement and onto the floor. This home had a washer and dryer in the basement and the floor was damp so when their washed clothes would hit the floor they would be dirty again. This homeowner was also Spending a lot of money on their energy bill and needed to fix that.
Solution
Solution:
We sat down with the homeowner and ran the plan by them and they agreed to it. We had the homeowner clean out the basement the best they can do. Then we cleaned up the ceiling rim joists of the basement with spray foam, This spray foam expands and seals all the cracks and prevents any leakage or energy to be lost. After the spray Foam, We put up the Foamax boards. These boards are made of Foamax polyiso which has flame retardant properties. In addition, These boards have a foil facing to reflect heat so the insulation isn't doing it all itself.
The results of the Rim joists and Foamax boards being installed are a warmer more comfortable basement, warmer floors above the basement, condensation in the summertime and lower fuel bills. In this house, it especially helps with keeping the floors dry and makes it easier for the homeowner to do their laundry without having to worry about getting their clothes wet and dirty again.
