Crawl Space Insulation Install In Ashford, CT
Challenge
Did You Know That Uninsulated/Underinsulated Floors, Rim Joist, and Windows in Your Crawl Space Could Be Costing You More On Your Fuel and Electric Bills??
Problem:
This homeowner reached out to Fogarty's Home Services due to having a poorly insulated crawl space. During the free home evaluation from one of our building science specialist, he noticed that the crawlspace was under insulated with floors open to the outside, and underneath the bottom of the joist was open and exposed. That type of exposure leads to several challenges. One challenge was moldy damaged insulation from the crawl space ceiling which was found upon inspection, another issue was the windows were not weathersriped to protect the home from air leakage which could cause major heat loss in the winter. The walls were also poorly insulated and the rim joist had no insulation which is another factor to major heat loss in the winter.
This homeowner had problems with cold floors in the winter, drafts, greater overall air leakage rate and higher fuel cost.
Solution
Soulution:
Fogarty's Home Services helped to fix this uncomfortable home with several different treatments and installs. We first removed all the moldy old insulation from the crawl space. The next step was installing closed cell spray foam to all the rim joist to assure that the joist were properly insulated. This stops air leakage and helps with summertime condensation, and keeps floors warmer in the winter, also helps to make the home easier to heat and cost less to heat. Another install was our foamax insulation boards on the walls making humidity much lower, less drafts, more comfortable house, lower fuel and electric bills. Weatherstripping the windows was also and important step to helping this vented crawl space become insulated. To help the under insulated floors in the crawl space we installed Silverglo Foam insulation board across the bottom of the floor joist bumping the R-value up 24% over standard EPS foam. All seams were sealed helping the home to be more comfortable, quieter, with lower fuel and electric bills.
