Vented Crawl Space Insulation in East Hartford, CT
Challenge
Problem:
This home had a crawl space under the home that was all rocks and dirt. This crawl space was vented letting cold air come up in the winter making the floors cold and in the summer the vents let warm humid air in which is cooled by the crawl space. This causes the relative humidity to go way up and condensation to form all over the crawl space surfaces including floor joists and ducts. When this keeps happening over time it causes mold and rots the wood.
This is what was exactly happening to this homeowner in East Hartford , CT
Solution
Solution:
When we got the call we were so glad to work. We knew exactly what the problem was and the best possible solution for this homeowner. We talked it over with the homeowner and they agreed. We started by spraying the MoldX2 cleaner to make sure all the old mold dies out. Our team then got to spraying the rim joists with closed cell spray foam. This is a two-part expanding foam that seals all air leaks from the outside and insulates it. Our own Dr. Energy Spray foam that we use has a high insulation value per inch of R7 preventing anything to get through it. The final steps of the job are all linked together. We sealed up the vents with a dimpled, plastic drainage matting installed on the floor to create a space and thermal break. The Terrablock foam floor insulation is installed over the drainage matting across the entire floor. A heavy-duty 20 mil thick GoldSeal was installed across the entire floor over the drainage matting and up the walls. This home is now well insulated and has much lower humidity and warmer floors upstairs.
