Making a F.R.O.G. (Finished Room Over Garage) Warmer in Windsor, CT
Challenge
This homeowner called us out to their home in Windsor, CT to take a look at some issues they were facing in their home. They were having a number of issues with the bedrooms in their home. This included having a hard time keeping bedrooms warm in the winter, and keeping them cool in the summer. The room that was giving them the most problems was the Finished Room Above Garage, which we refer to this as the F.R.O.G. here at Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions. This is an issue that we see every day. Garages are not heated, but the finished rooms above them are. When the garage ceiling is only insulated with fiberglass insulation, as this home was, it is not efficient. Fiberglass insulation is soft and fluffy allowing a great deal of air to travel through, making it inefficient with a decreased R-Value. This results in too cold, or too hot drafty floors upstairs which was the root of this homeowners problem.
Solution
To fix this serious issue, we need to properly insulate the garage ceiling and floor below the F.R.O.G. The first thing we need to do, is to take off one panel of siding, and drill holes into the outer edge of ceiling and floor framing of the home. We do this to ensure we are able to properly insulate the areas necessary. Next, we use our super long TruSoft Cellulose Insulation hose and insert it into the holes we have drilled. We make sure the hose reaches all the way to the other side of the floor so that we wont miss any spots once we get to our next step, blowing in insulation. On this next step, we blow our TruSoft Cellulose Insulation through our long hose and it is all packed into the floor. This not only compresses existing loose fiberglass insulation that was not doing its job, but the density stops airflow through the floor from air leaks. This results in warmer floors above, more comfortable rooms, and lower heating and cooling bills. Thanks to Dr. Energy saver by Eco Energy Solutions we have resolved this problem once and for all! These homeowners can now live more comfortable and energy efficient in their home!
