Insulation Services Photo Album: Ice Dams in Mansfield Center, CT

This homeowner was having a problem with ice dams.  Ice dams are caused when warm air from the conditioned space leaks into the attic and melts the snow on the roof.  The melted snow then refreezes at the roof edge, the part of the roof that is not warmed by the heat loss from the conditioned space.  We air sealed all gaps and penetrations in this attic stopping the air leakage.  We properly insulated this attic to R-60 using our TruSoft cellulose insulation.  This homeowner no longer has to worry about ice dams, no matter how cold the winter.
