This homeowner in Woodstock, CT called us in the hopes that we would be able to help him with the ice damming that they were experiencing. When our Home Comfort Specialist came out to the home, he noted that the home was old (built in the 1800s) and was not properly insulated. However, this homeowner's attic was particularly hard to insulate for other contractors due to the large amount of ducts and electrical equipment that took up the majority of the attic.
We were able to help this customer with their attic. We utilized our SuperAttic™ system in order to insulate it appropriately while ensuring enough access to the ducts and equipment in the attic. The SuperAttic™ system is made of our SilverGlo™ foam insulation board. This insulation board is infused with graphite, giving it a superior R-value, and has a foil face on both sides. The roof is still vented, preventing ice damming, but the attic is now part of the conditioned space in this home. A perfect solution for this homeowner's problem!
This homeowner in Barre, MA called us hoping that we would be able to replace his old and inefficient insulation. When our Home Comfort Specialist arrived, he found that the attic was not air sealed and was insulated with inefficient fiberglass insulation. This meant that there were severe air leaks and temperature issues.
We first had to remove all of the fiberglass insulation. This was bagged and placed in our truck in order to be disposed of. We then vacuumed up the remaining loose insulation.
After that, we air sealed every gap in the attic. To do that, we utilize Zypfoam™ expanding foam. After doing other necessary services prior to insulation, we install baffles (air chutes) into the rafter bays as necessary. We finally use our TruSoft™ blown-in cellulose insulation, blown in to the optimal R-value. This insulation fills all gaps and voids, and prevents thermal bridging by filling over framing members. This homeowner now has a properly insulated home -- it is warmer, more comfortable, and even quieter!
Insulating knee wall in Canton, CT to make home cooler upstairs in the hot weather.
These homeowners called us because they wanted the upstairs of their home to be more comfortable year-round and they also wanted their issues with Ice Dams resolved. These homeowners were also experiencing moisture issues throughout the home, especially in the basement.
Our Building Science Specialist was able to do a whole home evaluation based on the issues at hand and came up with the following solutions: First we would remove and dispose of old, dirty existing batt insulation in the attic and prep for fresh, clean insulation. Next we would extend the bath vent and duct bath fan through the gable end and to the outside so the air is no longer feeding into the attic and creating lots of moisture and mold. We air sealed and insulated the scuttle cover. We had to create a new entrance to the knee wall areas where we installed a Super KneeWall™ System with Silverglo™, then we dense packed the roof with TruSoft™ Cellulose insulation, air sealed the floor with ZypFoam™ and finished by insulating the attic floor with TruSoft™ Cellulose as well. Next we air sealed the basement with closed-cell Spray Foam insulation along the Rim Joists and installed Foamax™ board on the walls. We also Removed and replaced a few exterior doors.
