These homeowners in Enfield, CT had issues keeping their home, primarily the den, warm in the winter. There were old batts of fiberglass insulation that at one point were installed into the ceiling of the crawlspace, but were now falling off, letting cold air up into the home.
We started off by clearing out this old insulation. With the space cleared, we sealed off the rim joist, otherwise know as the perimeter of the floor framing of the house, to stop cold air from creeping in. We installed our SilverGlo graphite infused foam board onto the walls to insulate the crawlspace to keep heat in during the winter. We then got to work on the dirt floor of the crawlspace. We laid down our dimpled drainage to create an airspace and thermal break. Then we put down our TerraBlock floor insulation, and finalize our sealing off the crawlspace with our vapor barrier liner to keep moisture from getting into the crawlspace and creating any mold issues.
Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, this home will be warmer and the den with be far more comfortable.
This homeowner in Enfield, CT called us hoping that we would be able to replace his "makeshift" crawl space entrance with a new access system. Since the old thinking was that crawl spaces could have dirt floors and be vented, it was okay for access doors to be loose fitting and unsealed. Today we know that to have a comfortable, energy efficient home, free of mold, rot, bugs, and odors we must seal off all air (and water) leaks from the outside. But an old crawl space access door doesn’t do that. And wells fill up with leaves, water, and weeds grow in them, a constant maintenance issue. Open wells can also be a fall hazard. Results - Warm, humid air leaks in during summer, causing condensation all over the crawl space, cold air leaks in during winter causing cold floors above and cooling heating ducts, higher fuel and electric bills.
We had the perfect solution for this customer. The Turtl™ Crawl Space access system is an airtight door and a sealed access well in one durable unit. This highly specialized product is the only one of it’s kind manufactured anywhere and is perfect for it’s purpose. The homeowner can open the lid and crawl into their crawl space without getting wet or dirty. The Turtl™ even has a place for a lock on it, and will never rust, rot or need paint! It’s airtight and watertight and people can jump on it without a problem! Result - An airtight, watertight, durable crawl space access that keeps the home clean and healthy. Lower fuel and electric bills.
This homeowner called because her 1949, Cape Style home, had been causing heat system concerns since she bought it in 2019. When the outside temperature changed, so did the inside. The homeowner had received 2 prior energy evaluations and even had some attic work done before she called us.
Our Building Science Specialists were able to identify that the drafty and uncomfortable Master Bath along with the problematic mudroom were actually caused, in large part, to the highly inefficient crawlspace below the home which had been a vented, dirt crawlspace. Dr. Energy Saver was able to the solve the problem by installing an Encapsulation System with Drainage Matting, Terra Block Floor Insulation, SilverGlo Insulation on the walls and an anti-microbial 20 mil liner, resulting in lower humidity, warmer floors, less drafts and a more comfortable house with lower fuel and electric bills.
This homeowner in Shelburne Falls, MA called us when she realized that half of her home was uninsulated. She was hoping to get a whole-home energy evaluation as well as get the home insulated. When our Home Comfort Specialist arrived, we noted that there were several issues with the home - including the fact that her crawlspace was not encapsulated.
We began with insulating the crawl space's walls using SilverGlo™ foam insulation board. SilverGlo™ foam has graphite infused into the foam to increase the R-value by 24% over standard foam. We then laid out a dimpled plastic drainage mat across the floor, and installed TerraBlock™ floor insulation over it. On top of all of that, the CleanSpace™ crawl space encapsulation liner was installed permanently across it. The crawlspace is now clean and insulated -- protecting this customer's home from the temperature fluctuations, humidity, and pests outside!
Homeowner was referred to us by a prior client! He was experiencing issues with allergens in the basement including mold, dampness, and dust. This was a 1900's foundation wicking moisture into the home. Our Dr Energy Saver solution included the implementation of a Clean Space Encapsulation.
