Used spray foam on rim joists to seal up areas where energy was being lost.
This homeowner called us because he purchased a home near the water and wanted to re-do the basement. The homeowner wanted to create a moisture barrier in the basement before continuing with the total basement finishing project.
Our Building Science Specialist carefully evaluated the basement and concluded that the best option was to air seal and insulate the rim joist with closed-cell, Spray Foam Insulation. We offered a simple and affordable solution to effectively solve the problem for the long term. We fix uncomfortable homes!
This homeowner in Enfield, CT called us out to their home to update the insulation in the home they just moved into. We noticed they had no insulation in their basement! Along the rim joists around the perimeter of the home in the basement, a lot of air is able to escape out of and enter the home. Since the cold, concrete walls of the basement are buried in the ground they tend to be about 17° cooler than than your home should be. In the summer this allows warm, humid air into your basement, hitting the cold concrete walls. This will cause condensation, supporting mold, which can be dangerous!
We knew we had to help this homeowner! First we prep the home and protect any personal belongs from during our work! Next, we get right to it! We install our spray foam insulation along the perimeter of the home on the rim joist. Spray foam expands to fill all cracks and joints where air was previously able to escape or enter the home!
Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver, these homeowners are more comfortable, happy, and more energy efficient in their homes!
This Homeowner in Enfield, CT called us out to their home to increase the Energy Efficiency in their home. We did a full home energy evaluation. We noticed air penetrations around the rim joist or perimeter of the floor framing system.
Like most other homes, the rim joist was not insulated. It was letting in cold and dry air in the winter and hot humid air in during the summer. Which in results causes cold floors and drafty uncomfortable rooms. It also causes more condensation in the basement in the winter, and higher heating bills.
We sprayed the Rim Joist with our two part spray foam. This seals up all the gaps and cracks so air will not be able to enter the home.
Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, this home will be far more comfortable!
This Manchester, CT customer reached out to Fogarty's Home Services for a Free Home Energy Evaluation to determine why her home was experiencing drafts and coldness. One of the issues we found was leaky & poorly insulated rim joists. The "rim joist" is the perimeter of the floor framing system along the exterior of the house. The joints and gaps between all the framing members allow for a lot of air leakage into the house. The rim joist is seldom insulated and never air sealed. Basement ceiling insulation, especially fiberglass batt insulation, doesn't stop the flow of cold air into the home. This explains why our customer had a drafty, cold house. To fix our customer's uncomfortable home, we installed two-part expanding spray foam on the rim joists and over sill plate to seal all air leaks from the outside and insulate the area. Fogarty's Home Services uses a Dr. Energy Saver spray foam with a high insulation value per inch of R7, and because it expands, it seals all cracks, gaps, and joints where air from the outside enters your home. Now our happy customer will feel the results, which include warmer floors, less drafts, more comfortable rooms, and lower energy bills.
