This home owner in Enfield, CT called us out to see if we could help him with a problem he was having in his home. The problem was that he was not comfortable in his home no matter the season! When our building science inspector got to the home he noticed the problem right away. The problem was that this cape cod construction home had very little insulation to protect it from the outdoor elements.
To fix this problem, first we have to properly insulate and air seal the attic spaces using our Super Kneewall Treatment. To begin, we block the end plates in order to stop air from getting into the floors. Next, we put up runs of our 4" SilverGlo foam board insulation along all of the slopes to give it some much need R-value. Then, we screw the SilverGlo into the rafters making sure to air seal in between every single sheet. SilverGlo foam boards have radiant barriers on both sides, reflecting roof heat in the summer and to keep heat in during the winter. Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, this homeowners can now be comfortable in their home year round!
This homeowner called us baffled. She couldn't figure out why despite having newer windows and doors and a new(ish) roof, she could not keep the temperature comfortable in her home.
Upon evaluation, our Building Science Specialist was able to immediately determine that the home was not properly insulated or air sealed. This home's attic and basement were in need of treatments to make this home comfortable and energy efficient.
We removed and disposed of all existing, old batt insulation and prepped for new insulation in roof and knee walls, including air sealing. We installed a Super KneeWall™ System with SilverGlo™ and dense packed with TruSoft™ Cellulose. We then treated the basement by air sealing the Rim Joists with Closed Cell Spray Foam and Installing a new, Custom Exterior Door at the bottom of the hatch stairs. The basement improvements will reduce problematic cold floors and issues with dryness, humidity and allergens. "We Fix Uncomfortable Homes!"
This customer in Holyoke, MA called us out because of a concern they were having in their home. Their concern was that they could not keep their home or family room warm in the winter. This was caused by a lack of proper insulation in the attic of the home. Without proper insulation air can leak into your attic and out of your home, making it difficult and costly to keep a home warm.
To fix this, we use our SuperPlatform treatment. First we need to remove the existing insulation. Our installers remove all of the old insulation, bag it up, and properly dispose of the materials. Since this home contains an HVAC system in their attic we have make sure there is a proper walkway, or catwalk in the attic. This makes it so that service can be done correctly and safely in a space where there are mechanics. Next, we lay our 4" SilverGlo foam board across the wooded walkway. This will increase the insulation value by 24%. We want to make sure that none of the blown in insulation we are installing will get on to our new walkway. Next, we have to install plywood over the foam board and held in place by long screws and washers. Following this step, we dense pack TruSoft cellulose insulation into any space beneath the catwalk that is not filled. Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, this customer is warmer and ecstatic with the temperature in their home!
These homeowners in Northampton, MA wanted to make their home more energy efficient as well as eliminate moisture coming up from their dirt crawlspace.
Our first step with crawlspaces is to make sure that outside air and temperatures can't get in. We sealed the rim joist and any vents letting in drafts as well as installing our SilverGlo graphite infused EPS foam board with a radiant barrier facing to make sure the cold cannot get in through the walls. We then seal off the floor, starting with a dimpled matting to create air space and a thermal break. Then we put down our TerraBlock floor insulation, and seal the floor off with a vapor barrier liner.
Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, these homeowners will be paying less to keep their home comfortable and will not have to worry about moisture getting in!
This homeowner from Chicopee, MA called us to asses the energy efficiency in their home. They mentioned inconsistent temperatures throughout the year. During our evaluation and inspection, we found old fiberglass insulation, bare walls and drafts. After reviewing the areas of concern, the homeowners decided to focus on the attic. Typically, this is what we recommend to our homeowners - work your way from top to bottom; fix the attic then basement to create an envelope that fully seals the house.
First, we removed all of the old fiberglass insulation. We collected the material, vacuumed the small debris and properly disposed of the bags. Next, we air sealed all of the top plates with one-part fire retardant foam. Then, we added the TruSoft cellulose insulation making sure to cover all gaps and odd shaped spaces. This results were amazing! The homeowner saw a difference in their energy bills and they experienced a more comfortable home.
